Integrated Resource Plan

Minnkota Power Cooperative and NMPA are required to complete an Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) every two years, which is its plan to deliver safe, reliable, cost-effective and environmentally responsible electricity to their member cooperatives and municipals. But it has an agreement with the state of Minnesota to only do the IRP every five years. The idea of the IRP is to make sure the Joint System’s resources and demand side options are the best fit for the forecasted energy requirements. The plan must consider how to maintain or improve electric service to consumers, maintain low electric rates and minimize environmental impacts and the risk of adverse effects from financial, social and technological impacts.
